About these Projects:
The Florida Department of Transportation constructed a bike path/trail from New Pass Bridge to Longboat Key Pass Bridge and added right turn lanes at various locations along S.R. 789 in the Town of Longboat Key. These projects included:
Construction of an 8-foot bike path/trail at Quick Point Preserve (Overlook Park) that ties into the existing asphalt bike path/trail that currently ends just before the park and ties into a new asphalt entrance.
Construction of an 8-foot bike path/trail from Quick Point Preserve (Overlook Park) to Longboat Key Club.
Sidewalk modifications were installed for the visually impaired at:
- Longboat Key Club (at entrance and across the street)
- The Players Club (at entrance and across the street)
- The Colony (across the street from entrance)
- Villa di Lancia (entrance)
- Islander Club (across the street from entrance)
- Viscaya (entrance)
- Sea Gate (across the street from the entrance)
- Bay Isles Parkway (northeast corner)
Construction of an 8-foot bike path/trail at the following locations:
- 1511 Gulf of Mexico Drive (Private Club) to The Colony
- The Colony to just past Aquarius
- Villa di Lancia to just past Islander Club
- Viscaya to Veranda
Construction of a five-foot sidewalk from Veranda to Island West
Access driveways paved at:
- Quick Point Preserve (Overlook Park)
- Between The Colony and Aquarius
- 2251 Gulf of Mexico Drive (private entrance)
- Expansion of northbound right turn lane at Bay Isles Parkway between Veranda and Island West.
- New northbound right turn lane on State Road 789 at Broadway Street.
Other Information
- Construction activities were permitted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- No night work permitted on this project.
- Existing speed limits remained in effect during construction.
- Speeding fines were doubled in construction zone.
